If you already have a financial or other relevant qualification, or you have gained work experience in a bookkeeping or accounting field, you can apply for exemptions / Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Please note that exemptions are awarded only at the ICB’s discretion.
You have to submit a completed Student Details form and a Guidelines for Recognition of Prior Learning form directly to the ICB (you can download these from the ICB's website). You also have to submit your detailed CV and certified copies of your transcripts of results.
The ICB will review your application and determine how many exemptions you are eligible for. This process could take 6 to 8 weeks to complete.
If you are granted full exemptions from a subject, you do not have to complete a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) or write an exam. However, the ICB could require of you to complete an RPL PoE if they want additional proof of your understanding of a subject. You will not have to write an exam if the ICB is satisfied with the RPL PoE you submit.
A non-refundable application fee of R440 is payble when applying for exemptions. Proof of payment of this fee has to be submitted together with the documents listed above.
Once the ICB has confirmed your exemptions, a fee of R370 is payable for each exemption you accept.
A fee of R900 is payble for each subject you are required to submit an RPL PoE for.
